AMPUPLUGNPLAY Mini Guitar Amp

Posted on July 25th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

One of the new guitar headphone amps on the market this year is the AMPUPLUGNPLAY Next Generation mini guitar headphone amp. This amp is battery powered, using a 9 volt battery so it’s easily replaceable. A rechargeable battery could also be used. This highly portable guitar headphone amp plugs directly into the guitar, much like the VOX guitar headphone amp models out there. This eliminates the use of a guitar cord and also gives you greater mobility while playing.

Also like the VOX amPlug amps, the AMPUPLUGNPLAY amp also features an mp3 input so that you can play along with your favorite songs or practice getting that lick just right. The amp also has a headphone jack so that you don’t disturb anybody nearby. Along with the mp3 and headphone jacks, there is a switch that will switch the sound into either clean or overdrive mode. This switch between clean and overdrive makes this guitar headphone amp a must have for any serious guitar player.

At a very affordable price, you can’t go wrong with this guitar headphone amp. It even has high ratings on amazon!

Vox Battery Powered Amp

Give me inspiration !

When it comes to plopping down on your couch and practicing guitar, you can’t hardly beat a headphone amp, and one of the best headphone amp manufacturers out there is Vox. When it comes to most headphone amps, though, they are battery powered. This has both good and bad implications.

For the good, this cuts down on cords and it makes it easier to really practice anytime and anywhere because you don’t have to be around an outlet. This is a really big benefit for a lot of people. I also feel like battery powered amps cut down on the extra buzzing that you seem to get with a lot of amps.

For the bad, batteries eventually die, so buying the amp is one thing but then you have to keep buying batteries every so often. This really isn’t so much of an issue because you can buy rechargeable batteries that will last you a very long time if used to maximize their battery life.

I really like battery powered amps because in my mind the good far outweighs the bad. Your mileage may vary though.

Vox Headphone Amplifier

Vox

One of the best companies that makes headphone amps is Vox. Vox headphone amplifiers are some of the best amps out on the market. They have amazing quality for the price, and they’re very small and portable and insanely easy to use.

Out of all of the headphone amps that I’ve seen, Vox are by far the best quality. The sound that you get in your headphones sounds very professional and all you have to do is hook in your headphones and hook it into the guitar and you’re all ready to go. A lot of the problem that I have with amps is that you can’t just sit there and start playing. It takes set up time. I know it doesn’t take a lot of set up time, but with the Vox headphone amplifier all you have to do is plug in and go. It’s a huge time saver for just messing around on the guitar.

Tube Amplifier Kits

Posted on June 25th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

If you would like to make your own amp, schematics can be found online. There are also a lot of kits that can be found online. Although it might be cheaper to just get the schematic and buy all of your own parts to build your tube amp from scratch, a lot of times it’s a lot easier to just go with a kit so that you know that all of the pieces you have will go together.

I know I built my own desktop computer once, and one of the biggest issues was finding things that all worked together. It would have been really easy to just get a kit to put the whole thing together. Some people like to buy all the individual parts themselves and put it together. If you’re the type of person that enjoys that, then more power to you. If you’re not, then I strongly recommend looking into getting a tube amplifier kit. You still get the feel of putting something together, but without all the hassle of finding the exact right parts.

Tube Amplifier Schematics

Posted on June 22nd, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

There are plenty of places online where you can find schematics to make your own guitar tube amplifier. This can be especially nice for the people who want to know how an amp works, even if you never plan on building one yourself. It can be nice to see the inner workings of something to get a handle on what’s going on inside it.

In this case, as I’ve found is the case with all electronic devices, building your own tube amplifier can most times be much much cheaper than buying your own amp. This is especially true if you know the right places to buy the parts for the best prices.

It can be a rewarding experience to build something like this. I haven’t actually built my own amp, but I’ve built my own computer, and it’s really cool to look at it and know that you built it. Plus I’d imagine there are a lot of ways you can customize a tube amplifier to add in some effects and things that you can’t necessarily get on the market.

In later posts, I’ll find some amplifier schematics to post on here for those of you that would like to try your hand at creating your own amp.

Electric Guitar Headphone Amp

Posted on June 21st, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

Electric guitar headphone amps are one of the newest and best tools on the market for the electric guitar player. These amps are super easy to use and the sound quality on many of them is awesome for the price. They’re mostly cheaper than full sized amps, and you get almost the same level of quality. The only real downside to these headphone amps is the fact that nobody else can hear your awesomely brilliant guitar playing. Or can they? You can actually buy what is called a connection cabinet and connect your electric guitar headphone amp up to it and treat it as if it’s a real amp. This may seem like a lot of connecting and not worth it when you can just buy an amp, but you get the portability and sound quality of the headphone amp, while still being able to play your music out loud. It’s an electric guitar headphone amp and a stack or cabinet amp in one!

The real reason that electric guitar headphone amps are nice is that you can just sit on the couch with your headphones on, get lost in your music, and you aren’t bothering anybody. I know that you’re playing music, and people should be lucky just to hear you play. The truth is that not everybody appreciates your music. I know it’s hard to believe. Remember how your parents used to complain about that “noise” that you played on the radio all the time? Well, for your apartment neighbors or, perhaps, still your parents, it’s probably going to pretty much be the same reaction. Very rarely is your taste exactly that of the people who live next door to you. This makes guitar headphone amps an awesome choice for jamming out and still being respectful to the people you share your space with.

Choosing a Headphone Amp

Posted on June 18th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

When it comes to choosing a headphone amp, there are a few things that you want to think about. First of all, you need to determine the quality of the guitar headphone amp that you want. If you are willing to give in a little on the quality of the amp, then you can get away with paying a much lower price. In other words, if all you’re looking for is a quieter way to practice while hearing what you’re doing, but you don’t need it to sound like you’re Carlos Santana, then you can get by with something cheaper. The difference in price between the ‘ok’ guitar headphone amps and the really good quality ones isn’t that much though.

Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a headphone amp is the way that the amp actually works. If you don’t want to have a lot of cords hanging around, then you probably want something like the vox headphone amp that plugs directly into your guitar with only the headphone cord to contend with.

At a smaller size, you also want to take into account whether the headphone amp you’re looking at is analog or digital circuitry. Analog headphone amps tend to have a better sound quality. A lot of the time headphone amps will be digital though.

Also, you should consider the control that the amp has. Does it allow you to distort the sound and do you have general control over the volume and sound that you’re getting from the amp.

I really think that you can’t go wrong with the vox headphone amps, but I know that there are other really nice amps out there. These are just some things to think about when you choosing a headphone amp.

Vox ac30 Headphone Amp

Posted on June 17th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

One of the best headphone amps out there is the vox ac30 headphone amp. With pretty much all high reviews in amazon, you can’t go wrong with this amp. Very simple to use, you don’t need to worry about plugging in a bunch of cords or messing with a bunch of settings. All you need to worry about are the gain, tone and volume controls. Just plug this into your guitar, plug in your headphones, and you’re ready to go!

Perfect for playing on your couch or for practicing a riff without disturbing your neighbors, this little amp is perfect. It has all analog circuitry, so the sound that you get in your headphones is almost identical to that you would get from a larger tube amp. There is also a jack where you can plug in an MP3 or CD player and play along with your favorite songs. The vox ac30 headphone amp has it all.

Headphone Practice Amp

Posted on June 16th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

If you’re a college student living in a dorm, anybody living in an apartment, or if you just want to play at night without waking the ‘rents up, then you know how critical it is to have a headphone practice amp. I can’t tell you how many times having one saved me from having very angry neighbors. While there are some out there that are of pretty crappy quality, I also know for a fact that some of the headphone practice amps on the market are amazing to the point where you can’t believe how much you sound like a rockstar when you play. Some of them are even featured right here on this blog.

Headphone practice amps aren’t just for not disturbing your neighbors either. If you’ve got a gig coming up, they can be a great way to warm up, or maybe you’re nervous about a lick or solo that you’ve been practicing and you just want to try it a few more times to make sure you’ve got it down. This can really help, because I think it’s a little easier to get into the guitar-playing zone when you’ve got the sound streaming into your ears and it’s all that you can hear.

So, maybe you’re the sort of person that only wants to play out loud and you don’t care if you wake anybody up because you don’t care at all about upsetting the man, but for the rest of us out there headphone practice amps are awesome.

Hello Kitty Headphone Amp

Posted on June 15th, 2010 by Guitar Headphone Amp  |  Comments Off

There are tons of guitar headphone amps out there of all styles. It’s hard to believe that you couldn’t find one that really suited your interest if you wanted to. There’s even one for Hello Kitty fans. Above is a Hello Kitty headphone amp made by Fender. I usually trust anything that the “big name” guitar manufacturers make when it comes to this kind of stuff, and Fender is pretty much right up there on the list.

This cute little Hello Kitty headphone amp comes with a pair of adjustable headphones, so you don’t even need your own to jam. Also, this guitar headphone amp has a 3 way sound selector switch which can be used for distortion, overdrive, or a clean sound. Really, for the price I think this hello kitty headphone amp is a steal.
